So... There is going to be a box set of the first seven seasons of Power Rangers.

My wallet is going to be fucked if they release a box set of the other seasons.

So... can I just say that I've been working on my Power Rangers fanfic for, like, five years now and I've finally gotten to Day of the Dumpster and I'm having ALL THE FUN writing about the day from a non-Ranger perspective?

Yeah. That's all. XD
...You have some really, really awesome people who've agreed to let you email/PM them to brainstorm story ideas, cause you have no idea how a human would go about asking Rita Repulsa to hire them...

...So you're writing, like, literally a single-spaced page of "Short story long, I’m writing a fic that spans from MMPR to Space. It features an OC Ranger and, consider yourself warned, it’s probably Sue-ish" and way too much background info...

...And finally you get around to the actual issue you're trying to figure out, so you're all like, "Except, unless you’re Divatox, you can’t really call Rita Repulsa on the telephone, so there’s still the problem of how Idelia would contact her in the first place"...

...And then, somewhere at the beginning of Page 2, you answer your own question.

Major thanks to [livejournal.com profile] psyco_chick32, [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl, and [livejournal.com profile] pockythoughts for having volunteered their brainstorming services! Be glad that you were spared my probably incoherent ramblings. XD
...Would anyone be willing to help me brainstorm on some ideas for an epic PR fanfic I'm working on? I'm still trying to flesh out some of the back story details, and I'm struggling a bit. =(

Dear Power Rangers Samurai,

PLEASE, for the love of GOD, invest in some acting coaches for the Power Rangers. I know you must not have much of a budget, considering you keep using all the shitty Sentai footage for battle scenes, but the acting on this show is completely atrocious (even more so than Wild Force, which is quite frankly embarrassing) and is seriously turning me off from watching it.

So, please, get some acting coaches. Otherwise, I don't know if I can handle two more years of this.

No love,

So, awhile ago, I was watching Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue and had an "omg, I am SO old" moment when I saw Carter and Joel listening to a portable CD player. In their car. I didn't really think much of it beyond my initial "wtf" reaction, but when I watched Linkara's recap, Linkara made some comment along the lines of "Apparently Miss Fairweather couldn't be bothered to include a CD player in the Rescue Rover," and a story idea was born...

Originally, this was supposed to explain why Miss Fairweather didn't put a CD player in the Rescue Rover. Then it sort of evolved into a story about the Rangers' music tastes, coupled with a Dana/Carter romance and apparently some Ryan angst thrown in. I... don't really know what happened.

Anyway.

Title: Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Fandom: Power Rangers (Lightspeed Rescue)
Characters: Dana, Carter, Joel, Kelsey, Chad
Rating: PG
Summary: Joel is horrified to discover that Miss Fairweather hasn't included a CD player in the Rescue Rover. When he finds a portable one, Dana is reluctantly conscripted into burning a CD for the team.
Note: Keep in mind... Lightspeed Rescue aired in 2000. Which means, no iTunes for these poor Rangers! I mean, we're dealing with boomboxes here, guys.

What does 'dig in the dancing queen' mean? )

Oh, and there's also a soundtrack )

This is what I do when I should be working on my research paper.
On the spur of the moment, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] foxtree's comment here, I decided to write a crack-y sort of fic where Sky gets transported back in time, and is told by TJ and Rocky that he needs to chill out about being the Blue Ranger.

Here's the result!

Title: Adjusting to Blue
Fandom: Power Rangers (SPD, Zordon era)
Characters: Sky, Rocky, TJ
Rating: PG
Summary: Sky was prepared to sulk for all eternity about being the Blue Ranger, but when he unexpectedly travels back in time, he meets two other Blue Rangers who've faced similar problems adjusting.
Note: For the purpose of this story, TJ and Rocky apparently hang out with each other in Rocky's dorm room. I don't know why, they just do.

THIS BETTER FUCKING HAPPEN IN THE AMERICAN SERIES. STAT.

Also, NEEDS MORE KIMBERLY.
Finally watched it! Screw you, Nickelodeon, for not uploading it onto your site and making me download it. =(

Anyway.

Um... I'm not really impressed. As everyone else has said, it didn't feel like a pilot so much as a second or third "Ranger X needs to learn teamwork" episode. While RPM didn't provide any exposition, at first, as to how Scott, Flynn, and Summer became Rangers, there were still other forms of exposition - we could see them all coming together, and we knew from Dr. K's voiceover the general gist of what had happened. This? Not so much. No idea how the team came together, why they came together, etc.

The villains are really terrible. Honestly, the bulging costumes need to go. They're not remotely frightening. I assume, based on the horrible production quality, that they were using Sentai footage. Also, wtf is up with the premise of frightening people into... literally crying a river?

The Rangers themselves... Meh. They're pretty, but that seems just about it. They're also pretty bad actors, though hopefully they'll improve as the season goes on. The girls better have more to do later on, because right now they're just playing cheerleaders for the guys. Jayden seems incredibly wooden and a bit too "The moral of the episode: let me explain it to you" for my tastes. At least Kevin's hot!

Very disappointed by the reliance on the Sentai footage. I'm sorry, I know it's "the original footage" and all that, but it's terrible. Power Rangers needs more slow-mo/explosions and less shitty graphics, and Samurai is SEVERAL steps backward from RPM/Overdrive in that regard. Can we *please* start using more American footage? I'm sure it's a budget issue and most kids probably wouldn't notice enough to make the expense worthwhile, but still. I'm so sick of the absolutely ridiculous things (those arms? Really?) that happen in the Sentai footage.

Bulk and Spike were okay. Still raging over the possibility, no matter how small, of Kim being Spike's mother, but Spike himself isn't a bad kid. I liked his laugh. XD

On a more positive note, the theme was great! At first I was like, "There's no way they're going to fit 'Rangers together, Samurai forever' in that chord," but then they did! It was a pretty solid remix of the original theme. I also loved how they included the non-theme MMPR music at the end, when they did the high-five thing.

ETA: One more good thing - I liked the Megazord cockpit. The new costumes were pretty interesting, too. Also, the animation behind the Megazord as it finished the forming sequence was AWESOME! Yay, oceans! Ahem.

Overall, I'm very underwhelmed and more than a little bitter about the Sentai footage. Also, the whole "Rangers together, Samurai forever" thing sounds stupid. But, assuming we get more exposition/explanation in the future, I could wind up liking it! I won't write it off yet.
I was actually going to post this as a comment to [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl's entry, but it wound up becoming really bitter and I decided I'd rather spare her. =P

Warning: if you ship Skull/Kim (this isn't the spoiler, btw), this entry is probably not for you.

Minor edit )
Instead of doing my history reading, I decided to continue with the Power Rangers 30 Days meme. I clearly have my priorities straight.

Favorite male + female Rangers )

Other thirty days, for my reference )
So, now that I've actually seen all the seasons of Power Rangers, I figured I'd give the 30 Days meme another go.

Favorite season and favorite team behind the cut! )

More to come soon! =)

Just finished RPM! And, wow, that makes seventeen seasons of Power Rangers... which, if my calculations are correct (they're probably not) makes for around twelve solid days' worth of episodes. Damn, I'm good.

So, some thoughts on the rest of season:

Corinth has a ridiculously terrible security system. How do these monsters keep getting in??? Seriously, half the time they walk in the security alarms don't even go off.

Why did Dillon drive on the right side of the road, while Scott and Flynn drove on the left...? If Corinth was supposed to be Boston, they should all have been driving on the right. And even if Corinth made up new driving rules, their steering wheels should all be on the same side.

The way they introduced the Dillon/Summer romance, on Summer's part at least, was pretty abrupt. There were a few hints of Dillon being interested in Summer, but definitely not the other way around - and all of a sudden Dr. K's like, "You're totally torn between Scott and Dillon. Which one do you think is cuter?" And wtf was the hint about Scott? Summer didn't seem interested in him at all. There was this one brief moment where Scott saw Summer put her hand on Dillon's shoulder, and he nodded, but I wasn't sure if he was "surrendering" or just, well, nodding.

Speaking of Summer/Dr. K conversations, though, the one where Dr. K told her that she liked her even though she was competition for the male Rangers' attentions was PRICELESS. Absolutely beautiful, hahaha.

Also, totally random observation that I probably should have included in the last post: their names all sound like something out of a novel. Scott Truman, Flynn McAllister, and Summer Landsdown? Haha, wow. I'm rather impressed.

GEM AND GEMMA ARE SO FUCKING AWESOME. CAN WE HAVE MORE TRIGGER-HAPPY POWER RANGERS PLEASE. ALSO, THEIR JUMPSUITS ARE PRECIOUS. I really, really want a spin-off show of Gem and Gemma blowing things up.

The possible romance between Gemma and Flynn was totally unexpected, but sweet and adorable nonetheless. I would have liked to see it alluded to in the finale, though.

Dillon and Tenaya... Hm. Unfortunately, Dan Ewing wasn't the greatest of actors, so some of the moments between them came across as a bit cliche. That said, I have a total lesbian crush on Tenaya. Seriously, that girl is hot.

Also, guys? Dr. K officially wins the award for Power Rangers mentor who doesn't actually suck. YAY!!! Congratulations, Dr. K, you're a rare specimen.

So... Wow. Seventeen seasons. Bring on Samurai!

Stealing from [livejournal.com profile] pockythoughts! And also stealing her idea of using Zordon-era Rangers, because, um, I'm creative like that. Only difference is, I included some of the In Space ones. =)

First, write down the names of 12 characters (it's best when they're all from the same fandom). Then read and answer the questions. You can't look at the questions until you write down the 12 characters you're going to use.

Meme! )

First reaction: WHAT IS THIS SHOW AND WHAT HAS IT DONE WITH POWER RANGERS. Oh my motherfucking God, the opening of the pilot was darker than any part of Countdown to Destruction. Seriously, shit is going down on RPM. What the fuck. I don't even know.

Thought Dillon's rock-and-roll entrance was a bit cliche, but still pretty awesome. Not quite sure if hot, but more than amenable to further inspection. ;)

Scott is ridiculously hot, although I keep confusing him with Flynn for some reason. Also, why is Flynn randomly Scottish? (Lol, not to confuse him even more with Scott!) Not that I'm complaining or anything, just curious.

*sigh* And... once again, no Pink Ranger. This is really getting old.

Looking forward to being able to tell Summer apart from Ronny and Lily!

Ziggy amuses me. Similar to Norg, he's one of those rare times that Power Rangers manages to produce comic relief that's actually funny.

Anyway, despite minor quibbles, the pilot was overall pretty fucking awesome. Also, Scott's dad is fierce.

Other observations: dare I ask why the Statue of Liberty is in Corinth? And, moreover, in the Japanese footage? Isn't Corinth supposed to be modeled after Boston, Massachusetts? I mean, I guess I can see people trying to salvage and/or recreate historical monuments, but to randomly have the Statue of Liberty in one shot where a monster's coming out of the water - with absolutely no explanation - is really, um, awkward.

Tenaya seems like a pretty awesome villain! It helps that the actress is actually, you know, decent. And the whole humming thing is a nice, creepy touch.

Anyway... I just finished the fourth episode, so I've got a ways to go, but so far RPM is looking promising!

ETA: Why did Summer call Dr. K "the man behind it all"? I thought Dr. K was a woman...
