I was telling a friend about how I became a Tolkien geek, and I thought it might amuse some of you. =P

Me: So, back in 2002, when I was a wee middle schooler, a friend of mine was obsessed with Lord of the Rings and kept going on and on about how hot this guy Legolas was.
Me: Now, being very offended that anyone could like The Lord of the Rings over Harry Potter, I rolled my eyes and scoffed at her.
Me: In response, she whipped out a bookmark with this picture on it: http://www.posters.ws/images/357847/lord_of_rings_two_towers_legolas.jpg
Me: And my wee middle schooler self was like, "I NOW SEE THE ERROR OF MY WAYS."
Me: Except, that didn't necessarily translate into wanting to watch LOTR, because, well, Harry Potter was still totally cooler and those Orc things were so ugly, you know?
Me: But as fate would have it, I slept over a friend's house later that week on the same night her brother and father happened to be watching The Fellowship of the Ring.
Me: And we were trying to go to sleep, but shit was going down in Moria and all we could hear were swords clashing, people yelling, random creatures screeching, and whatnot.
Me: So, we decided to go downstairs and see what they were watching. And when we found out, I said to her, "Hey, that's the movie with that really hot Elf [our friend] showed us! Let's watch it!"
Me: And... that's how it all started.
Me: Also, I totally couldn't tell Aragorn and Boromir apart the first time I watched FOTR.
Him: Facepalm.

Anyway.

MAJOR FUCKING HOBBIT CASTING NEWS, WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT INVOLVE SOMEONE FROM LOST )

Also, the first pictures from The Hobbit have been released, so squee to your heart's content!!!

I just read the best quote ever, from the Library of Moria of all places.

J.R.R. Tolkien is God; Peter Jackson is his prophet.

So true.

Okay, here are the official stats for my story on FanFiction.Net.

Note the proportion of REVIEWS to HITS.

Now, I just posted chapter 58 last night at, like, eleven. I viewed the chapter ONCE, so thirty-one other people have since read it. Out of all of them, only ONE left a review.

Can you believe that? I mean, I love every review I get, and I'm not going to be like, "Review or I won't post!", but I'd love to be getting a hundred reviews a chapter.

Why can't people take the time to at least let me know that they're reading my story? Ugh.

P.S. I still can't believe that over a hundred people are reading each chapter! *is shocked*
Well, I have some more music uploads for everyone!

ALBUMS
Natacha Atlas - Diaspora
Natacha is an Arabian artist who performed on the soundtrack to Kingdom of Heaven.
Avril Lavigne - B-Sides
Contains: Don't Tell me [Live Acoustic], Nobody's Home [Live Acoustic], My Happy Ending [Live Acoustic], I Always Get What I Want, O Holy Night, Headset, Tommorrow You Didn't, Move Your Little Self On, Things I'll Never Say [Unreleased Version].

SONGS
Celtic Woman - May It Be
The group's style is self-explanatory. May It Be is a cover of Enya's, which was on the soundtrack to The Fellowship of the Ring.
Christina Aguilera - Understand [Live]
Christina Aguilera - Candyman [Live]
Evanescence - Hello
Evanescence - Missing
Jason Mraz - Wordplay
Josh Groban - Oceano [Live]
Sarah McLachlan - World On Fire

Comment with what you take, and enjoy!

Now, on another note, [livejournal.com profile] lightshadow54 pwned God and made an audiobook of my fanfic. Since iTunes has an option for album artwork, I created a cover! Now, I suck at manipulations, and it's not that great, but here it is:

Models: Colin Farrell as Borogor and Keira Knightley as Guthwyn. The little kid is Hammel.

*ish happeh* Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] lightshadow54!

P.S. I also got my entire CD collection organized! Which meant that I gave about seventy-five CDs to [livejournal.com profile] hethien (no joke), backed up my entire iTunes library on discs, and finally updated my iPod! Mua.

Guess who just ordered The Lord of the Rings: Limited Edition DVDs from Amazon.Com?

That's right--me!

JDFJKJGK;JKSDGKDGKDFGFDKLS;JGKFD

And what's even better, I got them only for $16.98 each. Plus, since I ordered them altogether and the purchase totaled more than $20, I got free shipping and handling! It'll take longer than standard shipping, but at $50.94 I felt I'd already spent enough, so I decided to wait.

In case you haven't heard, the limited editions combine both the theatrical and the extended versions on one disc. I've been looking to collect the theatrical versions, and this was definitely the best way to do it--not to mention the fact that they have uber-sexy covers. Furthermore, they're releasing this 300-minute, mostly unedited documentary some guy was given permission to do about what really went on behind the scenes of The Lord of the Rings.

*ish teh happy*

Unfortunately, this means that I seriously have to get a job, because I also want to buy LOST: Season Two, along with a bunch of CDs and books. *woe*

This is totally random, but I was talking with my friend Noah today, and he asked me how many pages my LOTR fanfic (in total) was. I didn't know, so I decided to add all the pages up.

So...

First part (Alone): 530 pages
Second Part (Reunions): 156
Third Part (Terms): 175
Epilogue (Recovery - in progress): 250

The grand total?

1111 pages!

*dies happy* It's a palindrome!

*is peeved* I cannot believe the number of outright Mary Sues at FanFiction.Net. Most of the summaries are like, "abused elf......can she find love again??? legomance," and yet they have hundreds (literally, hundreds) of reviews. I don't understand the attraction! I've read some of them, and with the exception of a rare few, they're not that good.

Now, what mystifies me is that all four parts of my story, which is a ridiculously blasphemous Mary Sue (Eowyn/Eomer's sibling, great warrior, angsty!past, etc.) don't even have a total of one hundred reviews. I know I'm being ungrateful, but at least my story's properly edited and has decent grammar. Whereas the pieces of shit that I see at FanFiction.Net, stuff that I could clean a toilet with, are all getting hundreds of reviews!

WTF. I do not see how a poorly-written Mary Sue can be considered in the least bit attractive.

...

Yeah, that was an unnecessarily bitchy post, and probably made me seem like a whining brat. I really do love the reviews I get, because most people take the time to write more than a sentence or two. At the same time, though, I can't help but be jealous that other stories (ones that have horrible spelling and grammar, no less) have such a huge fanbase. It starts to make me wonder if my fanfic is boring or too slow-moving or something.

*sighs* Now I'm just dejected.

Muahaha, going to see Inside Man today with [livejournal.com profile] sawyer_stalker8, [livejournal.com profile] elven_pirate_22, and her madre this evening! *is wicked psyched* We wanted to see The Libertine, which of course has Johnny Depp and is therefore automatically sexy, but they're not playing it in any theaters around us. -_-

In other news, my back = dead. I went to see my doctor last Wednesday, and she said I have "inflamation of the back." Which is all fine and jolly, except for the fact that I have States (an important gymnastics meet) coming up next week! Not to mention that I haven't gone to practice all this week, because I was trying not to strain my back.

I went to practice yesterday, though, and of course I basically died. I can't frigging do anything anymore, and it's really frustrating. I also feel guilty, because my coach is all like, "Take it easy," and I feel like I'm playing the injury card just to get out of work. I mean, I'm not, obviously, because I'd much rather be able to do the work than to have to sit out on the sidelines, but I keep thinking that's what other people think. -_-

Anyhoo, in other words. I think it's time for me to play that game again.

Name a movie, any movie, and I will connect it to The Lord of the Rings. Give it your best shot!

Starting out with Inside Man, which I will connect in three ways )

:/ That was too easy. Challenge me!

Wow, it's been a long time since I updated, lol.

To start off with--has anyone seen the LOTR stage show? The newspaper around here gave it an amazing review, but of course it's in frigging Canada, and I can't see it. *kills* Plus, they don't have a soundtrack out. Roar.

Second of all, I finally saw that Romeo + Juliet movie (1996, Leonardo DiCaprio and Clare Danes), and guess who was in it? Harold Perrineau: Michael, from LOST! *dies happy* Other than that, of course, the movie absolutely sucked. Enough said.

And finally, for a fanfic rec (Eomer/Lothiriel).

Warrior Queen

Very good, even though I'm not normally an Eomer/Lothiriel fan. *is desperate for Rohan fanfiction*

Well, that's about it for today. I'm going back to working on my story! =)

Well, it is official.

I have finished Reunions, being the second part of my LOTR fanfic trilogy, at a final page count of 156. The whole thing took me twenty-three days to do.

Yes, I have no life.

As you may recall, the first one was 522 pages, but only 135 of these were happening during the FOTR movie, and as this part was only events from the second movie, the drastic shortening is understandable.

Muahahahaha. *glee*

Was looking for LOTR fanfiction (when I should have been working on my own), and one summary caught my eye:

Humour. More sex in Lothlorien. It's like the gay bar of Middle Earth.

Alright, to all you LOTR fanfic readers/writers, or just readers/writers in general (and particularly anyone who's ever hung around [livejournal.com profile] deleterius), I have a question for you.

Would you rather read about an original character who falls in love with another original character, or does the cliched falls-in-love-with-Legolas thing?

A little more explanation... )

Once again, please help me on this. It's becoming a major dilemma.

THREE HUNDRED PAGES

Actually, now it's 313, but hehehe.

Yeah, this was a kind of pointless post, but I'll update later--probably with a rant about my Digital Photography teacher. Ugh.

But 313 pages! =DDD

Yet more procrastination on working on my story. Here are two music memes!

Open iTunes/iPod or Windows Media Player to answer the following. Go to your library. Answer, no matter how embarrassing it is.

The questions/answers... )

Put your media player on shuffle and fill it out with the first song that pops up.

Questions/answers )

And because I feel like it, the last 100 words of my story so far.

...he was apologizing for a lot more than accidentally touching her.
She tried to reply, but all that came out was a muffled sound. Any second he would start. Her fear of the unknown future was drastically increased.
“Three…” Borogor said, now right above her. She stiffened. “Two…” Her entire body was shaking. “One.”
Cold liquid splashed down onto her back, drenching her skin and seeping into the wounds. Gúthwyn gave a shriek that was silenced by the rag, clenching her fists as her body was lit on fire. And then she screamed, for more cloth was pressed into the cuts.
