This year I'm going to try and read more non-fiction, a genre I've mostly avoided over the years. I've always considered non-fiction to be dry and boring, but it's not like there aren't plenty of fascinating true stories out there, and it seems silly to dismiss a whole genre - so I'm going to try to give myself more exposure to it and see if I change my mind. The goal is to read one per month!

I love it when you trick Bing Rewards into thinking you're using Bing when you're actually using Google, then get a $5 Amazon gift card for "using Bing" (yes, they pay you to use their search engine), then use that gift card to buy a physical CD, then get an email from Amazon telling you that you now have a free download of that CD waiting for you in your Amazon Cloud Player.

...But seriously, I need to stop buying shit from Amazon.
Someone asked me over at ONTD why I wasn't a fan of Beren and Luthien, and I thought I'd save my response over here because, well, just typing it up made me annoyed, lol. I can't be the only one who thinks Beren/Luthien are the ultimate Gary Stu/Mary Sue combo, right?

Cut for ~spoilers~ )

Also, on a somewhat related note, AO3 has pretty much ruined my life. So many fandoms, so many pairings... In the past month alone I've checked out the LOTR, Game of Thrones, Hawaii Five-0, and Alexander sections, lol. I should really start posting my own stuff there.

So pissed off right now about the gymnastics qualifications.

a) Fuck NBC Olympics for their determination to show every last tear running down Jordyn Wieber's face (to the point where they were pretty much ignoring Aly Raisman);

b) Fuck FIG for their ridiculous rules; and

c) Fuck NBC Olympics again for completely glossing over the non-American gymnasts competing.

It's a fucking disgrace that Jordyn Wieber isn't going to compete in the all-around finals. How the hell can those finals be a legitimate competition when the fourth-ranked gymnast isn't allowed to compete because of some dumb-ass rule? I understand that they want to give all the countries a chance, but seriously, this two-per-country rule is just punishing the gymnasts who happen to be on stronger teams.

Also, I'm pretty sure Jordyn's floor was grotesquely underscored. How else does Romania's Catalina Ponor - who not only stepped out of bounds, but balked on her triple twist and did a tuck full instead - get the same damn score?

Finally, I really appreciate NBC showing us all the key routines from non-American gymnasts. Only, you know, except for the part where they didn't.
So, today I finished re-reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I posted a status on Facebook mentioning that, adding, "I can't believe it's been seven years."

Then I remembered that it's July, and that most of the Harry Potter books were released in July - so, just out of curiosity, I decided to check the publication date on Wikipedia.

As it turns out, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was published exactly seven years ago to this day. Which means that, not only did I unintentionally finish my reread on the same date, but, given the time I finished it, I probably closed the book at almost exactly the same time as I closed it at the end of my first reading.

Isn't that crazy? I remember going with my friends to see Batman Begins before the midnight release party, then running over to the bookstore afterwards and goggling at all the costumes - one lady had dressed up as a portrait. And then we got the books, but for some reason went to sleep after (we were clearly amateurs). When we woke up, my friends had breakfast and started playing Nintendo, but I ignored them all and just kept reading, lol.

Fucking Dumbledore, man. Gets me every time. =/
I literally just had the most amazing dream sex with Thor from The Avengers.

For some reason the Avengers were hanging out and trying to jump into a projector screen, which would transport them to the scene inside of the screen. Clint, Natasha, and Tony could do it, but I couldn't. =( So, being the flirtatious little minx that I totally am in real life, I batted my eyelashes at Thor, sat down on his lap, and was all like, "Can you take me there?"

Cue amazing, ridiculously hot sex. Other random details: getting interrupted by various family members and friends, but giving absolutely zero fucks; having to relocate at one point and gathering up all of our stuff, but telling Thor, "Sorry, I can't lift the hammer, you'll have to get that one"; and a guidance counseling session with one of Professor Umbridge's guidance counselors, but I didn't trust her so I didn't tell her anything.

Seriously, if this is what happens when I read Avengers fic before going to bed, I need to do that more often. Let's just say that dream!Thor is... very well endowed.

ETA: The next morning, my dream self made out with Natasha Romanoff. Apparently my dream self is also bisexual.

Watched The Fast and the Furious last night with a friend, and it reminded me of this one time I watched 2 Fast 2 Furious and Fast & Furious back-to-back and then liveblogged it, only I did it on Facebook instead of Twitter. It started innocently enough...

09:12 - Watching 2 Fast 2 Furious... always in awe at the flawless dialogue.

And then it progressed...

09:27 - ‎"What you checkin' her out for?" "I'm not checkin' her out." "Yes, you were." "No, I wasn't." "I seen you checkin' her out man." "Ok, I was. Now shut up." "You shut up. Don't tell me to shut up." #2fast2furious #winningdialogue

09:28 - ‎"It's a work in progress. It's not finished yet." #2fast2furious #ohreally #thanksfortheinfo

09:33 - "It's getting thick real quick." #2fast2furious Paul Walker needs all the acting awards.

09:45 - That awkward moment when you're bitching about cops and three of the four people in your party are actually undercover cops. #2fast2furious

10:23 - ‎"Boat... Car... Boat... You're not going to do what I think you are, are you... OHHHHHHHHHH SHITTTTTTTTTTT BRIAN YOU CRAZY MAN!!!!" #2fast2furious #flawfree #whenwillyourfaves

10:45 - "LET'S MAKE SOME MONEY!!!" #fast&furious4 #analucia #accurate

11:09 - ‎"You the boss? Or am I talking to the boss?" "Do I look like a boss?" #fast&furious4 #nicecomeback

11:11 - ‎"You sure you wanna do this?" "A lot has changed." "You're right." #fast&furious4 #unresolvedsexualtension #winningdialogue

11:14 - "Sorry, car." #fast&furious4 #adorable #whenwillyourfave #tubesocks

11:33 - ‎"You looked under my hood?!" #iseewhatyoudidthere

Yeah, I kind of blew up some of my friends' newsfeeds... #norihgrets
So, apparently the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones can now be yours for only $30,000!

I couldn't imagine who would pay for that, but the 23 user reviews have since proven me wrong! I'm cracking up over some of them. Reviewers have listed the cons as "hard to match with decor," "a bit expensive," "doesn't include Joffrey," "everyone wants to sit in it," and "I want two of them." Best uses include "frat parties," "Easter," and "impressing the UPS guy."

Oh, and one of the reviewers already owns three of them.

Dear lord.
