Instead of doing my history reading, I decided to continue with the Power Rangers 30 Days meme. I clearly have my priorities straight.
4-Favorite Male Ranger
This is actually ridiculously hard. Here are the contenders: Jason, Rocky, TJ, Andros, Carter, Wes, Eric, Sky, Bridge, Mack. Oh... fuck. Wow, a lot of these guys are Red Rangers. Um... God damnit. All right, well, I'm going to cheat all over the place.
Tie between Rocky and Jason.

Jason, to me, is the epitome of a perfect team leader. He was calm, cool, and collected; he stuck up for everyone else on the team, especially the "weaker" members (read: Billy) who were easy targets for bullies; he always gave his all in every fight and pushed himself to even better. Remember his greatest fear in Island of Illusion? It was for the other Rangers to have died without him being able to save them. As far as I'm concerned, Jason demonstrated far better leadership in one and a half years than Tommy ever did in his entire tenure as a Ranger.
Rocky, meanwhile, is just twenty different kinds of adorable. Fanon typically casts him as the happy-go-lucky Ranger who's always eating food and otherwise being charmingly stupid, but he's actually quite smart (in one episode, he and Billy are in the same advanced math class) and can be serious on occasion. Even though he sometimes makes mistakes, his heart is always in the right place. It's unfortunate that he was always overshadowed by Tommy, and that he never got the chance to shine even when he was the Red Ranger.
Runner up: Tie between Wes and Eric.

Where to even begin with these two? Wes, without question, had one of the best character arcs of Power Rangers. He started out as just a rich boy without any sense of responsibility who thought being a Power Ranger was a game; he finished as someone who was willing to sacrifice himself for an unknown future, and a courageous leader on the field. His relationship with Jen was perfect: at first he didn't understand what her problem was, then he wanted to get to know her better, and finally he really started to care for her. Not only did his relationship with Jen evolve, but also his relationships with his father and Eric.
Then, there's Eric. Oh, Eric. Such a tough guy on the outside, such a softie on the inside. At first he came across as a total jackass, but come to find out he's just tired of being overlooked. His friendship with Wes was just... ugh, so wonderful. From distrusting him to finally accepting him as a teammate; from wanting nothing to do with the Rangers to eventually fighting alongside them; Eric was another character arc done well. His relationship with Taylor in the Wild Force team up is ACE. Seriously, those two were a match made in heaven. I still want fic of them, Wes, and Jen living in an apartment together. And, most importantly of all, Dan Southworth has really nice arms.
5-Favorite Female Ranger
Kimberly Ann Hart, no fucking contest.

There's so much I love about this girl, I can't even. I think what drew me to her at first was the fact that a) she was the Pink Ranger (pink!!!), and b) she did gymnastics. I've been doing gymnastics since second grade, so having a sport in common really made me relate to her. The thing about Kimberly is, she may be your typical "girly" Ranger, but she's also a serious ass-kicker/name-taker. If I recall correctly, she was the first Ranger to destroy a monster on her own. She may come across as a valley girl sometimes, especially in the first season, but she's such a sweetheart and she cares a lot for her friends. Her friendship with Trini and Aisha was adorable, too. Then, of course, there's her relationship with Tommy - huge dividing line across the fandom. I know Tommy has his flaws, but Kimberly brought out the best in him. He was so sweet to her, always supporting her at her gymnastics meets or anything else she was doing, and you could tell that they genuinely cared about each other. One of the issues a lot of people have with their relationship is that Kimberly, especially towards the end, called out for Tommy during fight scenes - but, unlike Kat, I really don't think this diminished her in any way. She was always (in my mind, at least) the strongest female Ranger, if not one of the strongest Rangers on the team, and she could easily hold her own in a fight. She's graceful, tough, gorgeous, funny, kind, and all around amazing. In other words, she's pretty much my role model. ♥
Runner-up:
I was originally going to go with Jen Scott on this one, but... as bamf as Jen is, at the end of the day I think I like Trini better.

Trini was the calmest member of the original team, the one you could go to if you were having a problem and needed someone to listen. She was more reserved than Kimberly, but she was just as kind and friendly. She would do anything for her friends, as shown in the episode where she conquers her fear of heights to rescue Billy from the Putties. She also doesn't hesitate to stick up for them, even against Overall, she just seemed a lot like someone I'd want to be friends with. On top of that, she's absolutely gorgeous. I wish they had done more with her crush on Ritchie, because she was so adorable when she got flustered. But, alas, goddamn Peace Conference got in the way. >_<
