So pissed off right now about the gymnastics qualifications.

a) Fuck NBC Olympics for their determination to show every last tear running down Jordyn Wieber's face (to the point where they were pretty much ignoring Aly Raisman);

b) Fuck FIG for their ridiculous rules; and

c) Fuck NBC Olympics again for completely glossing over the non-American gymnasts competing.

It's a fucking disgrace that Jordyn Wieber isn't going to compete in the all-around finals. How the hell can those finals be a legitimate competition when the fourth-ranked gymnast isn't allowed to compete because of some dumb-ass rule? I understand that they want to give all the countries a chance, but seriously, this two-per-country rule is just punishing the gymnasts who happen to be on stronger teams.

Also, I'm pretty sure Jordyn's floor was grotesquely underscored. How else does Romania's Catalina Ponor - who not only stepped out of bounds, but balked on her triple twist and did a tuck full instead - get the same damn score?

Finally, I really appreciate NBC showing us all the key routines from non-American gymnasts. Only, you know, except for the part where they didn't.

So depressed right now. I just found out that the gymnastics place I've been going to since second grade is closing. I don't know what I'm going to do anymore.

BRONZE MEDAL FOR USA MEN'S GYMNASTICS TEAM!

Alexander Artemev, you're my hero.
I'M DONE WITH GYMNASTICS MEETS FOR THE SEASON! *squee*

I just had States yesterday, and omg they sucked. I got my lowest score on bars EVER (6.6, which I still don't understand because I normally get in the low sevens - not enough difficulty in my routine - and I did a better routine than I usually do), and my second lowest score on floor this year (8.0, they apparently didn't count my "wimpy" - thank you, o nice floor judge - split leap series, even though I have been told at other meets that what I currently have is perfectly acceptable). My vault was okay, 8.05 (I normally get low sevens/high eights), but I was kind of hoping for more on beam (I got an 8.575 with no falls, and a bunch of people were getting higher scores with falls).

However, now that that's over with, I don't have to compete anymore this year (!!!!!), and I get to work whatever I want at gymnastics practice, instead of just what's in my routines. =D

On the other hand, now I have to worry about taking the AP European History test, and that's not until May 9th. Crap.

(Once I'm done with that test, I think I'm going to throw a party. Or something.)
Howdy, LiveJournal! Long time no update. Here's what's been going on in the past several weeks...

Gymnastics. I've had a couple of meets, one of which was a sectional - and I qualified for States! =D I still haven't qualified for Level 9, but I barely have the skills for Level 8, so maybe next year if I'm lucky. I've been working on giants (where you're in a handstand on the high bar and you swing around a bunch of times), and hopefully I'll get them soon! A couple of weeks ago I also went to the Tyson American Cup, which was pretty awesome because I got to see both Nastia Liukin and Paul Hamm. There were some incredible athletes there - but, of course, my camera chose to stop working about three events into the meet, which means I basically got nothing.

School. Ugh, school. I've been deluged with a ton of work, mostly in history. I'm taking the AP European History test this May, and since we've fallen behind I've had to read a couple of chapters per week. (That's a lot of pages, btw.) In my regular history class, we have a research paper due next week, which I've barely started typing and will likely spend my entire weekend working on. Then there's the usual barrage of tests, quizzes, and essays that my other teachers like to assign... fun stuff!

Health. Does anyone here have knee problems? My left knee's been doing this weird thing where it kind of pops every time I do a round-off in gymnastics. It hurts while I'm doing the move and sometimes afterwards, depending on how long I've been tumbling. A specialist at one of the gymnastics meets I attended said it was some kind of muscle (I forget which), and he gave me some stretches to do. But I was wondering - you know those bands that wrap around your knees? What are those for? Would they help in my situation?

That's about it right now - what's going on with everyone?

So, "ow" story of the day: I was doing a round-off back-handspring on the beam (only one handspring, not two like the video does), and I landed on my head. On the beam. From what I heard - I don't actually remember what happened - I missed my feet on the round-off and my arms were bent as I went for the back-handspring, the result being that my head landed first. Because I was arched, my neck bent underneath me, and I seriously thought I was going to break it.

Luckily, it didn't break, I wasn't paralyzed, and in fact there's only a small bump and a major kink in my neck, so crisis averted! =DDD

In other news, our science midterm is on Tuesday and I just fit everything we've learned this year onto one index card (which she's letting us use as a cheatsheet). Including a copy of the periodic table. Score!

P.S. I'm listening to Toby Lightman right now - ya'll need to check her out, she's absolutely amazing. She sounds exactly like Sara Bareilles, so if you like Sara you should definitely look up Toby! (And if you have no idea who either of these people are, go look both of them up!)

Today I had a gymnastics meet. I did better than the last one; I got a 31.95 all-around and qualified for sectionals.

Bars: 7.6
**I just started Level 8, and I don't have all the moves I need, so I lost major points because of the lack of difficulty in my routine... not to mention I just suck at bars in general.

Beam: 8.0
**Not happy with this one. Last meet, I got an 8.25 with a fall; I didn't fall this time, but I was so wobbly that they took off a ton of points for form. >_<

Vault: 7.9
**I was kind of hoping for better, but vault's another weak event.

Floor: 8.45
**Very pleased with this one. I got a 6.8 at the last meet because apparently my routine didn't have enough "B" level moves (i.e. the moves I was doing weren't difficult enough). Showing you how stupid this is, I added a straddle jump, a fish half, a cat leap full, and a full turn with my leg horizontal - all very easy moves - and bam! my score goes up about almost two points. (Even though I threw in a back flip with a full twist and landed so low that my hand hit the floor.)

So, all in all an okay meet (and certainly better than last time), but I hope next time will be better.

In other news, I just ordered a bunch of Anggun CDs, which makes me happy. ^_^ Anggun is an artist originally from India who then moved to France and released a series of albums from there. What's really cool about her is that she'll do an album in French, and then translate it into English - or vice versa. I ordered two of her French albums and two in English, including a greatest hits compilation that has some snazzy remixes.

And no, je ne parle pas de français, why do you ask?

So, apparently in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a Boy Scout troop was kicked out of a plaza for trying to collect supplies to send to soldiers in Iraq. People apparently complained that they were advertising a political, pro-war agenda.

I find this totally offensive and inappropriate, am I the only one?

Random fortune cookie story of the day: Last night at around 10:00 PM, I was totally stalling on my history essay. I had two paragraphs to go, but I couldn't focus. The subject was utterly boring, so I kept procrastinating, getting about one sentence every five minutes (and that may be stretching it). Finally, I got really frustrated and went downstairs to clean the dishes, because I had also procrastinated on that. We had had Chinese food that night, so I picked out a fortune cookie, which read:

Do your best to make it happen.

I went back upstairs and finished that sucker in twenty minutes.

In other news, my mom is now getting up in my grill about gymnastics. (Yes, I did have to say that.) Recently my back has been hurting during floor, which is directly connected to the impact from tumbling. I've scheduled an appointment with my doctor to see about getting an athletic back brace for that event, but now my mom's talking about me retiring from gymnastics and she's going on and on about how I shouldn't be looking at colleges that have gymnastics teams because who knows if I'll be doing gymnastics by then, and why not do dance or cheerleading instead?

Aside from the fact that I'd rather kill myself than do cheerleading, and that I'm only going to turn to dance when my body's too broken to do gymnastics, her attitude was irritating because she was implying that she was going to put pressure on my doctor to keep me from doing gymnastics. *facepalm* It is totally not the end of the world if I want a back brace to make floor easier.

She was also complaining about how I can't walk without Bob (my current back brace), which is total bull because I only need him when I'm walking around malls for hours at a time. I don't have a lot of muscle in my back, so it gets sore if I don't sit down and rest. Understandable, if regrettable.

Argh, major frustration.

Good things that are happening in my life right now: Tomorrow I have a free block and a full lunch, which essentially comes down to two and a half hours of free time and only four classes, none of which involve science. =D Oh, and btw, I only have science once this week, due to the Thanksgiving scheduling!

My Wednesday is scheduled to be full of awesome, too. We have three blocks, none of which are my math, science, or Spanish. Instead, I have English (okay), history (score!), and gym, which I'm actually liking this quarter. Then we have an actual half day, as opposed to a five-sixths day, and we get out at 11:03, which means I have time to go home and eat lunch and chill before work! I then go to gymnastics and after that Olive Garden, woot!

Oh, and you know what's the best part about all of this? I don't have to get up early on Thursday!

Thanksgiving should be good, my cousin and I are planning on watching the director's cut of Alexander (at least, I think), and I'm making yummy pretzels. Then on Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] llamallicious is coming over (assuming nothing suddenly comes up) and we're going to be having a childhood TV show marathon (ya'll know which show I'm talking about...), not to mention making a chocolate fountain, which should be delicious! =D

So, a fun weekend is coming up!

P.S. If anyone's interested, I quit Dance Troupe for this semester, because I hated going to the practices and it was making my back really sore. Now I have Sundays free, yay!

So, flist, what's up with you?

Just to let everyone know, I'm probably going to be making this journal friends-only as soon as I have enough time to make a new layout. (It's going to be of Jared Leto!) Chances are, I'll leave my old entries unlocked, but after that everything will be friends-only.

Cut for me rambling about my life )

Does anyone know of a good program that can remove vocals? I need to have my floor routine music ready this week, and I really want to do the Dropkick Murphys' "I'm Shipping Up To Boston," but I need to get rid of the vocals and so far all of the programs I've tried don't work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. I've already tried YoGen. >_<

P.P.S. If anyone has an instrumental version of "I'm Shipping Up To Boston" and can upload it for me, I will love you forever.

I just found the most amazing website ever.

Gymnastics Skills Index

It has a list of an incredible amount of moves on every event (men's and women's), as well as videos showing the skill. You have no idea how happy this makes me. Now I don't have to tell everyone what a tsuk is! *dies*

And the reason, dear flist, why you are being spammed with this is because no one else is online for me to squee to. :P

On another note, I WENT TO GYMNASTICS TODAY! =DDD Well, I didn't actually do anything, but I talked to my coach and my teammates. One of the girls is getting ridiculously skinny, which creeps me out, but other than that I had lots of fun!

And then, when I came home, I unscrewed the Oreos perfectly! Then, I figured out that if you put peanut butter on the clean cookie, and put the halves back together, they make a sandwich! jfldkgjfdkljgkldfgjkd

Reasons why this day has been so great:

1) I went back to gymnastics today! No obnoxious kids, and way more people in our group.

2) Got a ton of new music, including a few rare soundtracks. *excitement*

3) I reunited with my childhood and read some Power Rangers fanfiction. Yeah, most of it is crap, and since I haven't followed them for a few years I don't know what half of the stories are about, but it made me happy. I am now contemplating writing one myself. *giggles* It was the first fandom I wrote fanfiction for.

4) Speaking of fanfiction, I got to PAGE FOUR HUNDRED in my story.

5) I had an all caps-lock conversation (well, mostly caps-lock) with [livejournal.com profile] paradise_loved.

6) Found out that we're getting a pool! *excitement* It should be dug (though not filled) before we go to Hawaii. =DDD

Meh

( Jan. 9th, 2006 08:37 am)
Damnit. Today has not been good, and neither has this weekend.

To make a long story short, I had a gymnastics meet on Saturday. Me and my mom were leaving, and since I had gone before her I left the doors open for her. Common courtesy, right? So I'm sitting in the car and waiting for her, when I hear her really high-pitched voice shrieking at me to "SHUT THE FUCKING DOOR! THERE'S A FUCKING DRAFT IN HERE!"

Yeah, that's what I get for trying to be nice to people.

The actual meet wasn't bad; I only fell off of beam once, on my back-handspring. My coach spotted me, so I ended up losing 1.0 and got a 7.55 total.

Earlier, my parents had decided (at my birthday dinner, nonetheless) that my brother and I were spoiled (my mom had watched some episode of Oprah about spoiled children), and less than an hour later there was this list of chores to be done by 12:00 PM on Sunday.

- shovel the steps

(You have no idea how bad this was--not unless you've seen my house. I'm a pretty fast worker, and it took me almost half an hour to do half of them. Not to mention my back had been hurting from the meet, and now it's a hell of a lot worse.)

- clean our rooms/bathrooms (not too bad)

- take our sheets off the bed and put new ones one

(My mom had a total hissy fit when I just put the comforter on. I never sleep under it, because I always use blankets, so I figured it wouldn't matter. Right? Wrong! Apparently the sheets "protect the mattress." *snort*)

- vacuum the house

Like, wtf.

Then at dinner, my parents were going on about how fat I'm going to be when I grow up, just because I don't like fruit and my diet isn't perfect like my mom's. And my mom was all like, "How much do you weigh now?" in that annoying, "I know how much you weigh and I weigh less than you!" (Five whole pounds less, Mom, and even though you're an inch shorter than me I have more muscle than you ever will, so why don't you shut the fuck up?!)

ARGH.

So as part of my attitude adjustment, my dad decided that he wasn't going to drive me to school for a week. So today, I'm out of the house before 6:50 (the bus comes at 6:52), and twenty minutes later it becomes apparent that I have missed the bus. My dad was pissed.

The good side )

So yeah... Meh.

Omg, today was the BEST DAY EVER!

1. HARRY POTTER'S OUT!
2. I had only two full classes today, as I had a free block and the others were, for various reasons, let out early.
3. I had a really good burrito thing for lunch. And I also had lots of chocolate.
4. I was wearing my boots! *claps*
5. I brought my CD player to school, so I was listening to the AMAZING House of Flying Daggers soundtrack almost the entire day.

And one of the best reasons?

I DON'T HAVE TO JOIN THE HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASTICS TEAM!

And for those of you who are like, wtf?!... )

I'M SO EXCITED! GOF TOMORROW, BABY! WOOT!

I'm so glad it's Friday! *jumps around*

Lolz, last night my mom and dad watched LOST with me. My dad actually managed to get through half an hour before saying it was stupid and leaving. He got a huge kick out of "Doctor Jack and Kate!" He starting laughing the second Kate walked in on Jack when he was trying to sew himself up. (This is the pilot episode.) He's like, "So Jack needs to be sewn up and an attractive woman enters the scene. This is the stupidest thing ever."

He actually didn't make anything out of the "monster"; I thought he would but he didn't. Interesting. I think he left right as Charlie was singing "You All Everybody" to Kate. Heh.

Then we were having this whole conversation about LOST on the way to school. He was like, "There are polar bears on a tropical island?!" He wouldn't really listen to me about there being a reason for this. I also mentioned how Locke was paralyzed before the plane crash. He thought that was the funniest thing ever.

Heh, then we were talking about Doctor Jack and Kate. I was starting to talk about Sawyer; I mentioned that he smoked, and my dad's like, "Oh, how's that working out for him?" Then I was like, "Well, he hasn't been smoking lately, but another character, Charlie, is on heroin." Heh, I didn't get to tell him that he found a whole store of heroin in the statues of Mary. I think he would have found that hysterical. He was highly amused by Claire's psychic-friend story.

On another note, I got an idea for another LOTR fic! It's going to be an Eomer/OC, cause I'm a Suethor like that. Not that I'll ever get to the story, because I'm working on the one with Guthwyn, but yeah. It's an idea.

Moving on, I saw some really hot Josh Holloway pics on [livejournal.com profile] indilime's journal... I'll post them later, because I'm at school. They're so cool. ^_^

Ooh, and also on [livejournal.com profile] indilime's journal, she posted some new promo pics from HP4! I've been looking for pictures of Ron and Hermione posing forever. ♥ I think I'll make a ton of icons this week. I already made, like, 110 of LOST actors - on Thursday alone. Heh. Of course I have a life. ^_-

Ugh, and finally, my coach scheduled my first Level Seven meet for January 8th! I'm not ready to do a meet that soon! I don't have, like, anything on beam. We have to do a back-handspring and I haven't even done one by myself yet. And my dismount? A cartwheel back-flip? Nowhere close to happening! What was he thinking of?! *panics* And for bars, I do a clear hip to a back flip (flyaway) dismount-- have it at the pit, not on the high bar! Ugh, ugh, ugh! I'm going to get, like, a 5.0 on all the events. :(

Well, guess I'll update later... :/ Sorry if this killed your f-list.
