*is peeved* I cannot believe the number of outright Mary Sues at FanFiction.Net. Most of the summaries are like, "abused elf......can she find love again??? legomance," and yet they have hundreds (literally, hundreds) of reviews. I don't understand the attraction! I've read some of them, and with the exception of a rare few, they're not that good.

Now, what mystifies me is that all four parts of my story, which is a ridiculously blasphemous Mary Sue (Eowyn/Eomer's sibling, great warrior, angsty!past, etc.) don't even have a total of one hundred reviews. I know I'm being ungrateful, but at least my story's properly edited and has decent grammar. Whereas the pieces of shit that I see at FanFiction.Net, stuff that I could clean a toilet with, are all getting hundreds of reviews!

WTF. I do not see how a poorly-written Mary Sue can be considered in the least bit attractive.

...

Yeah, that was an unnecessarily bitchy post, and probably made me seem like a whining brat. I really do love the reviews I get, because most people take the time to write more than a sentence or two. At the same time, though, I can't help but be jealous that other stories (ones that have horrible spelling and grammar, no less) have such a huge fanbase. It starts to make me wonder if my fanfic is boring or too slow-moving or something.

*sighs* Now I'm just dejected.

I wish I understood it so I could explain it to you, but I really don't. Why crapfic gets tons of reviews and good stuff gets far less, is beyond me. If it makes you feel any better, at least most of the crapfic reviews consist of 'wow!11!! ur fic iz realy great! Post more soon! I *heart* Legolas!'
Hopefully you get more coherent, concise reviews. Even if there are less of them.

Yeah... Like I said, I love how most of my reviewers can properly construct a sentence. I would definitely not trade them in for a bunch of "omgz leggie!!!!!!!!" reviews. =)

*snuggles*
Actually, I'm not keen on Mary Sues in general... and the only fanfictions I ever read deal with Arwen, lol.

Lol, yeah. I don't tend to read them either--Rohan fic is my thing. =D

(yay! i finally added you to my friends list....!)

i guess the best way i can explain all the attention that lame mary-sues get it: people don't want to think. a well-written story with spelling good enough to comprehend would mean getting properly into the story, and thinking about it, which might shatter a the teeny brain of a rabid fangirl. or that's my theory. *shrugs*

poorly-written, bad-grammar mary sues are actually kind of stress-relieving to write - i just think we should be *hiding* them, not using them as review-vaccums.

what bothers me more are lame reviews: "hey yeah you're story's great, whatever, now let me give you a detailed summary of my badly-written story, which kind of sucks but read it anyway". i get few enough reviews as it is, so i can't stand crap like that.

O.O I never thought of it that way... You know, that makes sense!

Guh, and I totally agree with you about lame reviews... I mean, it doesn't take very long to type a few meaningful sentences (or even words), does it? *is annoyed with fandom*
