I was telling a friend about how I became a Tolkien geek, and I thought it might amuse some of you. =P
Me: So, back in 2002, when I was a wee middle schooler, a friend of mine was obsessed with Lord of the Rings and kept going on and on about how hot this guy Legolas was.
Me: Now, being very offended that anyone could like The Lord of the Rings over Harry Potter, I rolled my eyes and scoffed at her.
Me: In response, she whipped out a bookmark with this picture on it: http://www.posters.ws/images/357847/lord_of_rings_two_towers_legolas.jpg
Me: And my wee middle schooler self was like, "I NOW SEE THE ERROR OF MY WAYS."
Me: Except, that didn't necessarily translate into wanting to watch LOTR, because, well, Harry Potter was still totally cooler and those Orc things were so ugly, you know?
Me: But as fate would have it, I slept over a friend's house later that week on the same night her brother and father happened to be watching The Fellowship of the Ring.
Me: And we were trying to go to sleep, but shit was going down in Moria and all we could hear were swords clashing, people yelling, random creatures screeching, and whatnot.
Me: So, we decided to go downstairs and see what they were watching. And when we found out, I said to her, "Hey, that's the movie with that really hot Elf [our friend] showed us! Let's watch it!"
Me: And... that's how it all started.
Me: Also, I totally couldn't tell Aragorn and Boromir apart the first time I watched FOTR.
Him: Facepalm.
Anyway.
In other news... Evangeline Lilly has been cast in The Hobbit?!?!?!
From the sound of it, she's playing an Elven warrior from Mirkwood named Tauriel. This appears to be a rehash of Itaril, a previous character who was supposed to be played by Saoirse Ronan. Since I've hated Saiorse Ronan with a burning passion ever since I saw Atonement, I'm very happy that she's no longer involved. Also, I'm that rare breed of Lost fan who actually likes Kate, so I'm excited to see Evangeline Lilly join The Hobbit. Awkward Evangeline Lilly/Dominic Monaghan reunion, anyone?
On the other hand, I'm a bit iffy about this Tauriel character. Peter Jackson says her name loosely translates to "daughter of the forest," and has denied any possibility of a Legomance ("SO BACK OFF, BITCH, HE'S MINE!!!" the fangirlsmyself included scream), but there's still the possibility that she could be Legolas's mother or sister. More likely sister, though, if she's going to be family. Which, considering I've been writing my epic LOTR fanfic for about nine years now, makes me worried that Tauriel's totally going to fuck with canon/fanon. That said, I'm cautiously optimistic and I'm going to hope for the best. =)
Also, the first pictures from The Hobbit have been released, so squee to your heart's content!!!

I actually like Saoirse Ronan but I never saw Atonement, my first movie I saw of her was I Could Never Be Your Woman where she really impressed me.
Anyway, Legolas can't have a romance with anyone anyway unless they die since everyone knows he ends up with Gimli.
As for my experience with LOTR, I saw FOTR in the theater. I loved it and annoyed my mom with questions so much that she loaned me her books which are now my books.
I had a friend with that poster. I felt a bit left out because I didn't think he was that hot. I was more into the Hobbits. Then, Orlando did Pirates of the Caribbean and it was like, wow, that dude IS hot! The blond hair just didn't do it for me.

As far as Atonement goes... Ugh. I suppose it's a testament to how good of an actress she is, because I hated her character's guts so much and it has since made me hate her, lol, even though I don't really have a reason to.
I'm the opposite way about Orlando Bloom, haha. I mean, don't get me wrong, he's still pretty damn attractive as a brunette, but I love him in blond. XD

It's not a spectacular movie but it's cute and I loved all the people in it...been a sucker for Paul Rudd since Clueless...plus, Graham Norton with an American accent! I'd never seen him...act before, lol.
