Woot!
In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, I submitted this to my school's literary magazine. And got accepted! *dies happy*
Heh, I know I haven't been updating much lately, but I've been watching a ton of movies. Hehehe.
1. Girl With a Pearl Earring
OMG. Such a good movie, but I wish they had at least done something. Scarlett Johannson was a great actress, and Colin Firth was so, so, so sexy. Lol, but Pieter was kind of ruined, because he was played by that guy in Red Eye, which my friends immediately noticed and were like, "Omg!1!1wtf" Lol, the next day I went to find pictures of Johannson to make some icons, and the first thing I see is that Vanity Fair magazine shoot. Oi vei.
2. Elizabethtown
Cute, but the ending was borderline stupid. Orlando was actually good--I guess he's better suited to romantic comedies than serious films. Although he pwned as Legolas; I don't care what anyone else says. Stfu. Anyhow, Kirsten Dunst's character was kind of annoying, and it was rather stupid how they got together in the first place, but Orlando was good, and that's all that really matters in my book. :P
3. RENT
Okay, I was kind of forced to watch this one, because
lanie__rose had just gotten it, so I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and I can see why people liked it, but some of the scenes were totally stupid. Like, the one where Mimi's dying, and then all of a sudden she starts belting out this musical number. And then the part where Angel died. I have to say, I didn't really care when he did. Like, they're singing a song, right? One verse he's fine, next verse he's shivering, chorus he's in the hospital, and next verse he's dead. Like, wtf? And then Maureen was really sketchy. Didn't like her partner much, either. Ah well.
4. The Island
Way, way better than I thought it was going to be. Again, Johannson is a great actress. Wouldn't recommend this film if you don't like needles, but other than that it was really good. Some great shots at the beginning scene, where Johannson's on a boat and everything's all tropical and happy. The ending was kind of creepy, cause of all those white people crawling over the desert, but the black guy who helped them (yes, our requisite black guy) was really cool.
5. Wedding Crashers
Not as funny as it looked in the previews, but still entertaining. We watched the R version, as opposed to the unrated one, because my mom had the clicker. Nudity wise, it really wasn't bad. Rachel McAdams was a great actress, as always. I like her. Owen Wilson was cool, too. Vince Vaughn was kind of... meh. Towards the end, it definitely turned more dramatic than comic, but it was okay. The funeral crashing scene was amusing, especially with Will Ferrell, whom I totally thought was Trapper from that show M*A*S*H.
6. The Jacket
It was actually much better than the reviews made it out to be. Again, don't watch this if you're not big on needles. But it was really interesting, especially at the end, to see how everything tied together. And how Jack changed everyone's lives... I liked how when he first met Keira Knightley, she was half hungover in this beat up old van, working as a waitress. But the second time, she was coming out of the diner on her way to work at the hospital, and she had a nice Beetle ("punch buggy"), and was all happy. Definitely a good ending.
In other news... We redid my room! Tis cool. Before the color scheme was purple, green, and pink, but now it's blues, tans, and browns. The walls are painted blue, and all the furniture is white. We also (we as in me and my mom) put up these things called shadow boxes, which are just empty boxes you put on the walls so you can display stuff in. And, most importantly, I got all my posters back on the walls! =DDD
Unfortunately, however, there's this family friend who's been living with us for a month now. I'm going to call him Juan, because he's from South America and I don't actually want to say his name. Anyhow, Juan doesn't have a home, so he kind of goes around to my relatives' houses and stays there for awhile, and apparently it's our turn. Now, I don't mind him that much, and he really tries to help out a lot, but UGH.
Here's the thing. I don't know if it's because he's from a different culture, or because he's saying Spanish expressions that don't translate well to English, but he calls me things like "cutie" and "sweetiepie." For another thing, everytime I'm on the computer, he comes in and stands close to me and is all like, "So, what are you doing? Chatting with your friends?" etc, which is really uncomfortable. Then, a few days ago, it's 11:00 at night and I'm going up to bed. I went into the kitchen to get some water, and he's like, "You're going up to bed so early? No, no, stay up for a couple more hours with me."
I know he doesn't mean it like that--or, at least, I really really hope he doesn't--but it's really uncomfortable, and I really don't like being around him. Furthermore, he did this one thing a few days ago where he's sending an e-mail in the computer room. My mom's right across the hall from him, painting some furniture. But instead of walking twenty feet to her, he goes up the stairs and all the way to the other end of the house to ask me how to spell "sent." (No, I am not exaggerating. I am dead serious.) By the time he had done this three times, the fourth time I just walked away when I heard him coming. It was really weird.
*sigh* Anyhow, I hope he leaves soon. I feel kind of bad, because he's trying to be nice and all, but it's not having the intended effect, and it's to the point where I'm trying to avoid talking to him. Meh.
Well, have a good week, everyone!

I thought all of Elizabethtown was pretty stupid. Kirsten Dunst's character was very hateable, and the definition of vapid. Bloom did pretty well, considering what he had to work with. I think I like him better in action type movies, but the romantic comedy wasn't bad.

I totally agree with you on the Mimi thing. Although she's not my favorite character, I don't mind her waking up again, just not that abruptly.
But how can you not care when Angel died?! I mean, sure they could have prolonged the scene a bit and made his suffering more apparent. But when the person who is starving and freezing yet is still able to maintain a genuinely optimistic attitude dies you don't care at all?! You cruel and heartless person!
You know I'm just kidding, but Angel is my absolute favorite character and I was nearly crying when he died, so I had to say something.
But I am proud of you for watching Rent without thinking that it totally sucked! Go

Yeah... maybe then I might have cared more...
