30 Seconds To Mars

Alright, I'm guilty. I only started listening to this band because of Jared Leto. But you know what? Their music is pretty good, and they make kickass videos.

So I run, hide and tear myself up
Start again with a brand new name

Capricorn (Brand New Name)
Attack
The Kill

A*Teens

This Swedish pop group originally started doing covers of ABBA. Don't lie, you know they're better than the originals.

We gotta understand that it's time to let it go
Holding on to yesterday, it will never be the same

The Final Cut
Dancing Queen
A Perfect Match
Floorfiller

Alanis Morissette

Alanis Morissette is a lyrical genius. Only she can throw so many SAT vocab words into a song and actually make it work.

Are you uninhibited in bed, more than three times a week
Up for being experimental?

Crazy [James Michael Mix]
Unprodigal Daughter
All I Really Want
Not the Doctor [Acoustic]
21 Things I Want In a Lover

(Hilarious video parody of the Black Eyed Peas' "My Humps.")

Anggun

Possibly one of the most underrated artists in the world. The thing I love most about her is that she'll release the same album in both French and English, which is awesome.

If your hopes scatter like the dust across your track
I'll be the moon that shines on your path

Amore Immaginato
Still Reminds Me
Evil and Angel
Être une Femme
Snow On the Sahara

Ashley Tisdale

I won't hold it against her that she's in High School Musical (okay, maybe just a little) or that I personally think she's ugly; her music is lots of fun!

And I get on up and I get on down
And I play the fool when I act the clown

So Much For You
He Said She Said
Not Like That

Avril Lavigne

All the haters need to go away. =P I'm so glad she ditched the punk act and showed her true colors as a pop princess. It makes everything so much better.

I will be all that you want and get myself together
Cause you keep me from falling apart

When You're Gone
Hot
I Will Be

Bethany Dillon

Some Christian singers can get a little Jesus-y, but with Bethany Dillon it's easy to listen to her and have no idea that she's singing about God. She's an amazing acoustic singer who was featured on the Chronicles of Narnia "Music Inspired By" soundtrack.

Gaze into my eyes and let me know you’d fight thousands, for my love
Slip your hand in mine, ask me to dance with you tonight

Move Forward
For My Love
Why

Carrie Underwood

I'm absolutely loving her latest album, Carnival Ride. It's definitely an improvement from her first, as good as Some Hearts was. "Just a Dream" is a heartbreaking song - download this if nothing else.

She heard trumpets from the military band
And the flowers fell out of her hand

Flat On the Floor
Just a Dream
I Told You So

Conjure One

Conjure One is an electronic group with female vocalists. I highly recommend this group as well as Delerium, another band by the same creator.

You are like a dream
And I am just a trip that you are on

Face the Music [Kaskade Club Mix Edit]
Center of the Sun
Endless Dream

Danity Kane

Don't even lie to me. You know this group owns you. Seriously, though, what's not to love about "Show Stopper" and "Damaged"? Yeah, that's right. Nothing.

Can you fix my h-e-a-r-t
Cause it's d-a-m-a-g-e-d

Show Stopper
Damaged

Delerium

Similar to Conjure One - electronic background with female vocalists (one of which was Sarah McLachlan, in their famous song "Silence"). Nerina Pallot and Poe, both of whom have solo careers, have also worked for them, as well as Jael of the European band Lunik. Delerium has definitely introduced me to a whole realm of singers.

I really wanted to go
It hurt me too much to stay

Silence [Airscape Mix]
Lost and Found

Disney - Pocahontas Cast

Without a doubt, this is my favorite Disney soundtrack. (Yes, even over The Lion King.)

I thought our love would be so beautiful
Somehow we'd make the whole world bright

Steady As the Beating Drum (Main Title)
Farewell
If I Never Knew You

Hans Zimmer

With soundtracks to the movies Gladiator, King Arthur, and Pirates of the Caribbean under his belt, Hans Zimmer is one of the more well-known soundtrack composers. Granted, no one's ever going to accuse King Arthur of being a good movie (except for myself), but the music for it is breathtaking. Also highly recommended is "Now We Are Free," featuring Lisa Gerrard. Gerrard made up the foreign language in the song, but it's nevertheless beautiful.

The mist clears from your eyes
Your banner will promise

Now We Are Free [Juba's Mix] (Gladiator)
Tell Me Now (King Arthur)
Woad To Ruin (King Arthur)
Up Is Down (Pirates of the Caribbean)
Parlay (Pirates of the Caribbean)

Harry Gregson-Williams

My personal favorite soundtrack composer, Harry Gregson-Williams always seems to give a movie life with his music. He creates themes that fit films perfectly and carries them throughout his work, making each soundtrack a little gem. I'm sorry to sound cliched, but it's true. Kingdom of Heaven has the best soundtrack of all time, even better than The Lord of the Rings. Yes, I did just go there.

"Prince Caspian Flees" is an exciting listen, but "Sibylla and Balian" (the elusive track that was playing during the Kingdom of Heaven director's cut sex scene) is also worth a try. All of them are amazing pieces.

Prince Caspian Flees (The Chronicles of Narnia)
Evacuating London (The Chronicles of Narnia)
Only the Beginning of the Adventure (The Chronicles of Narnia)
Ibelin (Kingdom of Heaven)
France 1184 (Kingdom of Heaven)
Sibylla and Balian (Kingdom of Heaven)

James Horner

The soundtrack to Troy was started and finished in ten days, due to Gabriel Yared pulling out at last minute. Imho, James Horner's work was far better, resulting in excellent tracks such as "Achilles Leads the Myrmidons." It isn't one of my favorite soundtracks, but it's close. Horner also composed the snore-fest soundtrack to The New World; yet while the album is by and large boring, "All Is Lost" is a hidden treasure.

All Is Lost (The New World)
3200 Years Ago (Troy)
Achilles Leads the Myrmidons (Troy)
Through the Fires, Achilles... and Immortality (Troy)

Josh Groban

I cannot recommend Josh Groban enough. He blows all other singers out of the water. Not only is his voice amazing, but there is literally no difference between the sound on his album and the sound when he performs live. Do not pass this guy up. (How can you? He's adorable!) For an interesting fusion of classical and electronic music, check out "Now Or Never," his collaboration with Imogen Heap.

Tattered thought balloons above our heads
Sinking in the weight of all we need to say

With You
Now Or Never
Weeping
Pearls [Live]
Oceano
You Raise Me Up
My December
Alla Luce del Sole
Never Let Go [Live]
Remember Me

Katy Rose

Regardless of how disappointed I was by her second album, Katy Rose's first album, Because I Can, is a fun, defiant, teenage-angst-ridden album whose opener, "Overdrive," is probably the funnest thing since Baby Bottle Pops (remember those? "Just lick the pop, dip it and shake it! And lick it again!").

I'm diamonds where there once were stars
I'm sitting in Jayne Mansfield's car

Overdrive
Vacation

Lunik

The lead singer of Lunik, a European band no one in the U.S. has ever heard of, is Jael, whose name you might recognize as a collaborator with Delerium. Jael has a distinctive voice and a pretty face, and Lunik has great music. My personal favorite is "Little Bit."

It's easy to feed your fantasy
And I admit I don't give a shit about your family

Size [Live]
Weather
Little Bit
Last Night

Mandy Moore

Mandy Moore got lost in the late 90's pop surge shuffle between Christina and Britney, but she's way better than Britney and her mellow vocals are sometimes a refresher after Christina's ballads. Her music is frothy and fun, and in no way should be taken seriously. Imho, her career went down the tubes when she died her hair brown. Not a coincidence, I'm telling you.

Did the captain of the Titanic cry?
Oh, someday we'll know if love can move a mountain

Senses Working Overtime
One Way Or Another
Someday We'll Know
Extraordinary

Marié Digby

Yeah, she's the girl on YouTube who sings a better version of "Umbrella" than Rihanna. Her other stuff is in the same vein (a very acoustic feel), and equally good.

It's three a.m. as I stumble over to my bed
I've got a funny premonition that tomorrow's gonna be the same

Fool
Better Off Alone
Umbrella

Nerina Pallot

A pop singer who worked for Delerium, Nerina Pallot's songs are always interesting to listen to. One of my favorites is "Everybody's Gone To War," a wholehearted protest against the Iraq War. Regardless of whether you agree with what she's saying, it's still an excellent song.

I've got a friend, he's a purebred killing machine
I think he might be dead by Christmas

Everybody's Gone To War

Nickelback

Someone once told me that Nickelback is one of those rare groups whose albums get progressively better, and I definitely agree. I first got into them with "Figured You Out" (I think it was on a fanmix), and then I went out and bought All the Right Reasons.

I love the way you can't say no, too many long lines in a row
I love the powder on your nose

Animals
Savin' Me
Far Away
Figured You Out

Pristina

Pristina is another band similar to Conjure One. Incidentally, a member of my flist (you know who you are) introduced me to this group, and I was psyched to get my hands on a hard copy of their album. I absolutely love it. It's beautiful.

All this time to still not let my heart form words to say forget
You filled the sky the day we met, and now the stars all shine through you

The Ides of May
October
World Without End

No video available. Take this one on faith!

Rachel Stevens

A former member of S Club 7, Rachel is the only one of the group who's managed to have a semi-decent career. I'd certainly take her over Jo any day: her music is lively, upbeat, energetic. Some of you might recognize her song "More, More, More," which has been used in numerous commercials.

You're the one who's creeping
Rough love's so deceiving

I Said Never Again (But Here We Are)

Rascal Flatts

Most people run away when they hear country music, but Rascal Flatts is mainstream and nowhere close to hardcore country. If anything, they're the Backstreet Boys of country. They've even turned their name into a verb! (See "Bob That Head.")

On your knees you look up, decide you've had enough
You get mad, you get strong, wipe your hands, shake it off, then you stand

Where You Are
Stand
What Hurts the Most
These Days
Bob That Head

Rihanna

People need to give Rihanna some slack. She's awesome, she makes kickass songs, and she's better than you. So stfu.

If you download nothing else, snag "Disturbia." Ten points to anyone who can actually figure out what disturbia means.

I gotta get out, oh, figure this shit out
It's too close for comfort

Shut Up and Drive
If I Never See Your Face Again
Disturbia

S Club 7

The ultimate in Britpop. They used to have an awesomely hilarious show about a British band trying to make it in the U.S. Am so buying that when it comes out on DVD.

Tina's doin' her dance, Jon's lookin' for romance
Paul's gettin' down on the floor, while Hannah's screamin' out for more
You wanna see Bradley swing, you wanna see Rachel do her thing
Then we got Jo, she's got the flow, get ready everybody cause here we go!

Do It Till We Drop
Reach
Bring It All Back
S Club Party
Don't Stop Movin'

Sara Bareilles

Yeah, you've all heard "Love Song," but what about her other stuff? "Fairytale" is a clever song using - you guessed it - fairytales to bitch about men, and "Morningside" is always worth a listen.

Cinderella's on her bedroom floor
She's got a crush on the guy at the liquor store

Love Song
Morningside
Fairytale

Shakira

You've seen the belly dancing, now hear the music!

Seriously, though, Shakira is an incredibly talented woman. "La Tortura" is one of my favorite songs to sing along to.

How many people die and hurt in your name
And hey, does that make you proud, or does it bring you shame

La Tortura
Las de la Intuición
How Do You Do

Sinéad O'Connor

Although she's taken some flack for various controversies, Sinéad O'Connor's music is what matters on this page. If you can listen to "Daddy I'm Fine" without cranking up the volume and singing into a hairbrush, you're not human.

I get sexy underneath the lights
Like I wanna fuck every man in sight

No Man's Woman
Daddy I'm Fine

Vangelis

Famous composer who did the soundtrack for Alexander. Haters, lay off - Alexander was a sexy movie and you know it.

The Drums of Gaugamela

The Charge

Whaaaaat? What's wrong with Katy's second album?

...I should steal this format.

From: [identity profile] anolinde.livejournal.com

It was just kind of a mess of instruments with gravelly vocals. Maybe I was expecting something more like her first album, but I thought her second was by far the poorer. Have you heard it?

Go for it! I would like to see another music upload by you. =P

YAY, I'm glad I could inspire :D :D :D

I'm glad we have a similar love for pop music. Mandy Moore FTW.

Pop music is the best, lol. Mandy Moore is especially awesome. =D
