FORMAT: CD
ARTIST: Thievery Corporation
TITLE: Babylon Rewound

01. The problem with Babylon Rewound is that it really doesn't have a reason for existing. If the originals already sound like they belong in a bar, and are on the sleeker end of remixes, why bother "rewinding" them? I could place these two albums side by side on a playlist, put the thing on shuffle, and not be able to tell that there were any repetitions amongst the songs--the reason for this being that they all sound alike in the first place.

02. That being said, when taken by itself without wondering why it even exists (at this point, "The Outernationalist" asks me, "Why not?"), Babylon Rewound sounds just as good as the other Thievery Corporation albums. It's fresher than The Richest Man In Babylon, mainly because of new instruments and a faster pace.

03. I feel like I've heard "Until the Morning" before. It sounds almost like it should be the background to a Justin Timberlake song.

04. There is one new song here, "Truth and Rights," which is a bit of a departure from the nightclub scene and feels like it belongs in the movie Haven (which takes place on a tropical island). There's a random verse about halfway through of which I can understand absolutely nothing. Actually, scratch that, I can't understand about 90% of the song. But it sounds good, anyway. =)

05. At the end, I'd never be able to pick songs from this album out if they were placed amongst other Thievery Corporation tracks, but who's complaining? I don't know if Thievery Corporation is an acquired taste, or if (like a foreign language) you have to listen to it for awhile before you can pick out individual songs--or if it's even just my poor hearing--but I'm definitely going to be listening to this again.
