I'm thinking about making my journal friends-only. (Thinking, which may or may not result in following through.)

To those of you who do have a friends-only journal, what are the benefits of keeping all your posts locked, and are there any disadvantages?

Any/all input greatly appreciated, thanks!

Advantages? Well, people who you don't want to read your lj can't. I would have thought you, who are quite frankly paranoid about the internet, would have already switched over.

Well, it kept my sister from reading it, which was the primary reason I made it friends-only.

Advantages: It keeps annoying people away, keeps family members away, and it's a nice way to get to know just a certain amount of people on your friends list, without having to know all sorts of people that just comment whenever. I've always loved livejournal, but after having a friends only journal, I've made a sort of family group... it made me love it even more.

Disadvantages: Sometimes I feel like a bitch for having a f-o journal, like my entries are more important than everyone elses? Definitely not. I also feel bad because now people that I don't really want to add back will leave me comments on my fo post, requesting to be friends, and I can't just ignore them, so I have to add them. But usually it doesn't end up bad, and if it does, I just remove them.

Speaking of this... if you do decide to make your journal friends only, is there any way I can be your friend??? I'm pretty sure we're not mutual friends right now, but I've loved your journal for years and would love to be your friend! If not, that's okay too. I just seems like we communicate a lot on here, and it's weird to me that we're not friends!! But I can totally understand if you want to have only a few friends... I know the feeling.

I don't like friends only because if I see someone on a community that sounds interesting and am thinking about friending them, how do I really know if I want to friend them if I can't read their journal?

Mine is friends only for the fact that I'm quite the suspicious person and won't friend anyone in hours radius from me.

Not like my secrets are any better than others but to me no one except the people I tell should know about them .:)
