01. SJFJSDFSHFJSHJSHGDFJGLDFKGJLD POP! GOES MY HEART IS THE BEST. SONG. EVER. *dances*
02. Hugh Grant's accent is so sexy. They really should have done something to explain why a British guy was working overseas, but oh well.
03. I'm really not crazy about Drew Barrymore. It seems she always gets stuck playing the same people over and over again. That annoying, but cute girlfriend who teaches the guy some valuable life lessons, who talks too much, who's ungraceful, etc. She really should try something else, it's getting old.
04. Cora Corman was the best part of the entire movie. I thought it was hilarious how she was so into spiritualism, but had all these raunchy videos set to monastery chanting. "Buddha's Delight," btw, is almost as awesome a song as "Pop! Goes My Heart." She was a really good dancer, too; she comes pretty close to Shakira in my book.
05. One thing I didn't like about this movie was how they never resolved the subplots. They definitely had something going on with the Battle of the 80's Bands; supposedly Alex was going to participate in it, but then they show him watching it and he's obviously not. There was also the matter of Sophie's issue with her old professor. I know that in the credits they mentioned that the movie bombed, yet they should have shown her giving him a good piece of her mind. They must have been trying to keep the short, but I think they definitely sacrified quality for lack of quantity. =/
06. Overall... eh, it was okay. The music was good, and the dancing was great (in Alex's case, hilarious), but other than that the movie was the usual boring Drew Barrymore chick flick.

Of course, I love Hugh Grant for all enternity, so... yeah.
To your problems:
1) He was working overseas because he was a pop star. Most REALLY big pop stars find it hard to work from anywhere other than America.
2) I think they make it pretty clear how the subplots worked out. You can't always give people the piece of your mind you want to give them, and at least now she's a massive hit and he's not. Also, I think the scene where he was watching the show is supposed to resolve that he's not doing it.
I agree with your thing about Drew Barrymore, though I don't think she is as bad as people told me she was. But other than that I definitely don't agree with the rest of your problems.

Yes, they gave you hints about how the subplots ended, but they never explicitly said what happened, nor did they reference it in the actual movie (as opposed to the credits), and to me that just seems like poor resolution. *shrugs* To each their own.
