FORMAT: CD
ARTIST: Enigma
TITLE: The Cross of Changes
01. Was the random glitch at the beginning of "Second Chapter" supposed to be there, or is there something wrong with my copy?
02. I love the beginning of "The Eyes of Truth." I suck at instruments, so I don't know what they're using, but it's amazing. The person who starts singing shortly after sounds like they could almost be a continuation of that instrument (which just reminds me that I really want to listen to a cappella). The rest of the track is pretty good, despite being over seven minutes long; it has some percussions, which I like, and chanting in the background that doesn't overwhelm the song or make me want to turn down the volume. (This I tend to do when listening to Enigma so my family doesn't think I'm weird, heh.)
03. "Return To Innocence" is an amazing song. Again, the instruments fit with what the lyrics are saying. (I know, I know, it's all subjective, but that's my opinion.) Whoever's singing does an excellent job.
04. "I Love You... I'll Kill You" is another good track; the female singer(/breather, since she's not actually singing) makes me smile whenever she says "I love you... I'll kill you." They use this person on a lot of the tracks--she has one of those "seductive" voices that I suppose are appealing to someone, but just make me wish that she would talk normally.
05. What I want to know is, who is the Carly they're referring to in "Age of Loneliness (Carly's Song)"? I'm very intrigued. Here are the lyrics to the entire song:
Carly don't be sad
Life is crazy
Life is mad
Don't be afraid
Carly don't be sad
That's your destiny
The only chance
Take it, take it in your hands
First of all, I'm a little confused. They started the lyrics out like it was going to rhyme, but then they just totally abandoned that idea. What exactly is Carly's destiny? Why shouldn't she be sad? What is she afraid of? I'd like a little more explanation, please, especially since you had over five minutes to tell us her story and only managed to give us eight tiny lines.
06. I like this album better than the other Enigma ones I've heard so far, but not enough to give it three stars. Other than the few good songs, the CD just drags on and it's not very interesting.
