FORMAT: CD
ARTIST: Chris Pureka
TITLE: Driving North
01. The guitar playing in this is amazing.
02. Unfortunately, Pureka's voice (it's a girl, btw) is not nearly as remarkable. It's certainly not bad, but it's a little bit deep and it doesn't grab your attention. On tracks like "Unwelcome" and "3 A.M.," where the guitar isn't used as much, the song can become downright tedious.
03. "After All" is one of the better tracks on this album. It's upbeat, which takes the focus off of Pureka's voice and puts more emphasis on the guitar. Even if the instruments sound a bit hokey at times, they're still tolerable.
04. "Reprive" should have been on a demo, not on a CD. Listening to three minutes and five seconds of lackluster guitar-playing is not my idea of an enjoyable album. It would have done very well if she was trying to convince a record label to sign her, but I'm not buying it.
05. I don't think I'm going to be keeping this album on iTunes. It's certainly tolerable, but it's just that--leaning towards boring, if anything. There's nothing interesting about it, and her voice isn't even good enough to make you think, "Well, even if the instrumentals aren't terribly exciting, she's still an amazing singer." It's just very ordinary.
