FORMAT: CD
ARTIST: Hans Zimmer
TITLE: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

01. I love the opening song, "Hoist the Colours." That was such a great scene in the movie, and it conveys well in disc format. It's pretty awesome how the pirates go musical on us... hey, speaking of--Pirates: The Musical. Has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

02. The beginning of "Singapore" is so pretty! I love that flute thing; I really wish I knew what it was called. Towards the end, there's a nice transition into the traditional POTC theme, though this time they've thrown your friendly neighborhood Gothic choir into the mix.

03. The strings in "At Wit's End" are amazing. I'm not exactly sure at what point in the movie this track is playing (actually, I think it might involve Davy Jones, because as I'm typing this the music from his locket's started going), but it's gorgeous either way.

04. Haha, "Multiple Jacks" is such a great song. You know, just by listening to it, that Jack is doing something crazy, as usual.

05. The electric guitar (at least, I think it's an electric guitar) in "Parlay" is so frigging awesome! It sounds so badass. ;) Mix it with some strings and bells, and you've got one amazing song that at 2:10 was way too short.

06. "What Shall We Die For" is excellent--I love how they ditched the random Latin chanting by your friendly neighborhood Gothic choir and instead substituted the lyrics from "Hoist the Colours." That was definitely a great touch.

07. People really need to stop creating ten-minute-long tracks (*cough*"I Don't Think Now Is the Best Time"*cough*). Honestly, who has the attention span to listen to ten minutes of a piece which only occasional becomes fast paced? Couldn't you get your point across by dividing it into two or three songs?

08. Overall, I think this is one of the best scores Hans Zimmer's done in awhile. Most of his stuff sounds exactly the same, but he took off in a completely different direction with this album and it's amazing as a result. I really like how he added some new themes and instruments (that frigging awesome electric guitar, the strings in "At Wit's End," and the hangman's bells that you can hear throughout the score), but still managed to tie everything in with the old ones. I'm kind of torn between giving it four or five stars (because I really can't stand it when people do ten-minute-long, mostly-slow songs), but I think I'm going to go with five because I'm supposed to be reviewing the music, not the track times. :P
