FORMAT: CD
ARTIST: Lisa Papineau
TITLE: Night Moves

01. Papineau sounds a lot like Imogen Heap (many of her instruments sound as if they could have been created on the computer), though in reality she has other musicians working on the album. (Imogen Heap invited one or two to collaborate on a track, but everything else is clearly her own.) This isn't necessarily important, but I just thought I'd point that out to the person who said that they were the same thing as Imogen Heap.

02. "Out To You" is a good first track, except it's quickly forgotten in lieu of the absolutely horrible vocals of "Shucking, Jiving." I don't know who came up with the idea that distorting your voice through a microphone was a good idea, but I'd like to strangle them for it.

03. Whoever's playing the piano in "The End of Desire" is incredible.

04. Now that I think about it, Papineau's voice is actually kind of similar to Sinead O'Connor's. It's very breathy at times, and at others it's either very high-pitched or very low-pitched. It took me awhile to figure out why her voice was so familiar, but there we have it.

05. The song "LP Beat" does, in fact, have a distinctive background. So does "Saxophone Calypso," which is one of my favorite songs on the album. Unfortunately, I can't comment on any of the lyrics, because I can't find them online (and I'm one of those people who can't make out lyrics very well unless they're right in front of me), but the little snippets that I've heard seem good. Damn, I wish my ears didn't suck.

06. Overall, the instruments and uniqueness of this CD are definitely pushing me towards three stars. Again, if I knew what the lyrics were, I might even push it up to four stars, but I don't, so I won't.
