Barack Obama to require 400 hours of community service for every college student.

Don't get me wrong. Community service is great and all, if you like it. But forcing people to do community service just smacks of slavery, mmkay? Nice job, Obama. I'm really going to look forward to 400 hours of community service in college. You know, spending 400 hours of my time doing something that doesn't interest me, time that I could be using to, oh, I don't know, do my schoolwork so that I don't fail all my classes. Or, like, have a life.

Btw... I am fully aware that, like, 90% of LiveJournal is liberal and will therefore hate me for raining on the Obama parade. Whatever, I really don't care. =)

That is a little bit ridiculous, but I feel like it'll be a hard thing to enforce. And if it IS enforced, colleges will set up programs to make that possible. 100 hours a year sounds like a lot, but it really isn't. I don't think this is in any way a matter of being liberal or not. I would consider myself a liberal, but it doesn't mean I think this is OMG AWESOME. Just because I like Obama doesn't mean I have to agree with every single thing he says.

Uh, yeah, that's really messed up. I can't see how they are going to enforce it. Colleges and universities are going to have to hire whole departments of people just to keep track of the thousands of students' service hours. And public schools around here are having a hell of a time passing issues just to keep the schools afloat, let alone hiring and paying more people to keep track of volunteer hours.
And what happens if you don't do it? Do you not graduate after you paid thousands of dollars to attend university?
I'm going to cross-post this to my journal, I'm interested in reading responses about it, 'kay?
