Heh, first time was IMAX 3D at 48fps (went all out for midnight show). I thought it was too realistic--more like you were on set watching the movie being filmed. I couldn't get used to it, and for me, it detracted more than it added to the LOTR magic.
The second time I saw it in 3D at 24fps, and I liked that a lot more. I'd probably be fine with 2D, also. But no more high frame rate for me. :/
